At Prints on Paper we’ve developed a unique plate printing method that utilizes the newest Epson printers, Epson OEM ink, Torelief steel backed letterpress plates capable of 10um dot sizes, and a unique “dot aware“ dither algorithm to create multi-depth ink wells on the photogravure plate. This intaglio plate making technique enables incredibly smooth tonal transitions without any of the dot overlaps (aka noise) found in legacy direct to plate printing services. Finally intaglio printmakers can produce the finest of lines and thousands of gray tonal values from any digital file be that photographic, vector, digital-first, or anything else you throw at us.

We believe that photogravure can now finally take its place as a true continuous tone photographic print method alongside silver gelatin and inkjet. Combining this high quality plate process with a digital-first approach allows for new ways of printing. The exciting thing about gravure is the unlimited paper and ink choices that the medium allows for. Double plate printing, chin-collé, the sky is the limit with this process. It’s a very expressive medium!
