In-Studio Production

One of the most cost-effective ways to work with Prints on Paper Studio is to come work with us in-house. When artists are working in the studio, they have the ability to see the work coming out of the printers. This allows for edits, viewing of results, and a unique back & forth with the master printers in house. Working in this manor allows for a true collaboration between printer and artist.

When an artist is in-studio, the staff treats it as a residency day dedicating all of their wealth of knowledge and passion for printing to the artist. The artist is given full tilt of the studio, and any pigment prints made that day is reduced to 50% of the production price, for all gravure printing it is reduced to 40% the production price. This is a great cost effective way to have boots on the ground while still allowing the masters to do their work! These days can be used for large exhibitions, editioning, making a portfolio or working through a series. Dedicating the time to ones production can be a really rewarding way of working. These production days can be treated like a residency where the artist can remain emerged in the process of ink on paper.

Collaborative Printing

Prints On Paper is a collaborative print studio focusing on digital pigment and photogravure process. The studio has full editioning capabilities. Being a collaborative studio means we can take an artist’s concept and work with them to fully realize it in print-form. If the funding and timing is there, we are open to even inventing new print technology to see a project through (something we have done in the past). Collaborative printing does not have to be time-consuming or expensive. It’s often as simply as a quick conversation about each print with the artist and then we are ready to run. Over time we get to know an artist’s work (and brain) and the amount of communication back and forth about each work actually decreases while the efficiency increases. Because we are well-versed in digital we apply this collaborative concept to both new and traditional printmaking techniques. Print is print is print.

As a collaborative studio we do both publication work with artists and studios as well as contract for artists and studios. This means that for the artists whom we’ve selected to publish ourselves, we collaborate pro-bono with them to produce the work. For the work we publish, it might be in-cahoots with their gallery or another institution who will promote and sell the work or it might be sold directly through our studio or the artist. For contract work, the collaboration is the same but the artist or gallery or institution is funding the labor of creation and the studio is not taking a cut of any print sales in the future.
